Does the Police Station ever close?
Our business office (where you can get copies of reports & other paperwork) does close after 4:30 PM on weekdays, and it is closed on holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays. However, the Sturgeon Bay Police Department always has officers out patroling the streets. There is never a time when there are not police officers out on the streets, keeping our community safe. You can ALWAYS reach us by calling 746-2450, or by calling 911 if there is an emergency.
Can I get a tour of the station?
Group tours of the station can be arranged by calling the Police station. Each year, many schools and scout groups are given tours.
What will I get to see if I take a tour?
When you take a tour, you will see many interesting things. Some of them include the 911-dispatch center, the squad room, a Sturgeon Bay Police car, and you may even get a change to see the booking area and jail.
When someone calls 911, what happens?
When someone calls 911, a dispatcher answers the call. They will ask you information to determine the type of help you may need. The operator then uses a radio to notify the police, an ambulance, or the fire department where to go to help. This process happens in mere seconds, so help can come quickly.
How do you become a Police Officer?
If you decide to become a police officer in Sturgeon Bay, you must complete at least 2 years of college. You also must go through "police academy" training, which includes training on firearms, how to arrest people & defend yourself, how to write reports, how to drive a police car safely at high speeds & during pursuits, how to investigate crimes & collect evidence, and many other training topics. After you complete college & training, you take a written test. If you pass the written test, you have to pass two oral interviews. If you pass th
e interviews, you take a physical agility test. If you pass the physical agility test, you are hired as a police officer and start your field training process. See our recruitment website for more information.
