-Windows-In many burglaries, entry is made through a window or the window of a door. To prevent entry through windows, use commercially-available window laminates, which are thin sheets of plastic that can be applied to your windows to give them added strength and resistance to breaking.
-Doors-Doors are a primary method of entry in burglaries. Use solid-core doors, or metal-clad doors for higher security.
-Lighting-Consider installing motion-activated security lights on the outside of your home. These lights will turn on if they detect any one near your home at night, and will provide a strong deterrance to burglars or vandals.
-Vacation-If you are going to be gone on vacation, consider using a timer for your inside home lights. A light timer will turn your lights on automatically when you are away. This will give the impression that someone is still home. Remember to stop your mail and newspaper delivery. Also, call the Sturgeon Bay Police for a vacation watch while you are away.
-Neighborhood Watch-Keep an eye on your neighbor's homes. If you see anything or anyone that looks suspicious near them, call the police. Ask your neighbors to do the same. Consider starting an organized neighborhood watch group.
