The Sturgeon Bay Police Department holds recruitment periods as positions become available. Our hiring process includes but is not limited to the following:
- Initial Application Screening
- Interview with a Police Department Panel
- Interview with the Police and Fire Commission
- Physical Agility Testing
- Background Investigation
- Physical Examination
- Drug Screening
- Psychological Examination
After applicants complete the required phases, the applicant is placed on an eligibility list pending a conditional offer of employment as openings become available. It should be noted that the hiring process can take a period of several months and is dependent on the number of openings that the Sturgeon Bay Police Department has available at the time of recruitment.
Minimum Qualifications Desired
- United States Citizen of at least 18 years of age
- Possess a valid drivers license and have a good driving record
- Possess at least 60 college credits, or an Associate’s Degree in Police Science, or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in a related field
- No Felony or Domestic Abuse related convictions
- Ability to possess a firearm and use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Residency required within six months of employment Additional Qualifications Desired
- Good moral character, and must be honest, responsible and trustworthy
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds
- Ability to work individually and/or as a team

- Drug Investigator (Door / Kewaunee Drug Task Force)

- Special Weapons and Tactics Member (Door County Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT Team)
- Unified Tactical Instructor (DAAT, firearms, EVOC, Taser, etc.)
