The Sturgeon Bay Police Department holds recruitment periods as positions become available. Our hiring process includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Initial Application Screening
  • Interview with a Police Department Panel
  • Interview with the Police and Fire Commission
  • Physical Agility Testing
  • Background Investigation
  • Physical Examination
  • Drug Screening
  • Psychological Examination

After applicants complete the required phases, the applicant is placed on an eligibility list pending a conditional offer of employment as openings become available. It should be noted that the hiring process can take a period of several months and is dependent on the number of openings that the Sturgeon Bay Police Department has available at the time of recruitment.

Minimum Qualifications Desired

  • United States Citizen of at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a valid drivers license and have a good driving record
  • Possess at least 60 college credits, or an Associate’s Degree in Police Science, or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in a related field
  • No Felony or Domestic Abuse related convictions
  • Ability to possess a firearm and use all standard law enforcement equipment
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Residency required within six months of employment Additional Qualifications Desired
  • Good moral character, and must be honest, responsible and trustworthy
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds
  • Ability to work individually and/or as a team
